Banksia Bakehouse Review

Banksia Bakehouse has quickly become one of my top bakery picks thanks to its all-roundedness and fascinating takes on the baked goods we know and love. We're talking spruced-up danishes to seasonal swirly croissants.

As a bonus, if you need a cake that'll amaze guests at your next party, their layered cakes and pound cakes never disappoint.

Inside the bakery near Wynyard Station, you'll find a white, modern space with an open kitchen where you can watch those flaky croissants and glossy tarts come to life.

However, the seating is limited, so it's more of a grab-and-go spot.

There's so much to try here that you can visit all year round and still have something new to sample. Check out my Banksia Bakehouse photos to see the collection.

Biscoff Cheesecake Swirl Croissant

I'm obsessed with this one, and it's one of my favourite unique croissants! It's flaky, and the layers overlay a creamy Biscoff cheesecake filling. It's then finished with mascarpone and crunchy biscuit crumbs. It's sweet but not overly so and super satisfying. Do note that the Swirl flavour changes, so it won't always be the Biscoff version.

Ellipse 1

Smoked Mushroom, Potato, and Pecorino Danish

I've seen danishes way too many times at corporate catering events, so I've had my fair share. However, these are a notch higher than the typical ones you'd come across.

In this case of a savoury danish, think of golden puff pastry packed with creamy potato filling, sautéed mushrooms, and a sprinkling of pecorino. The balance of crispy, creamy, and savoury is just chef's kiss!

Banksia Honeycomb Chocolate Cake (Seasonal)

I have easily had four to five different celebratory cakes here, which you can find displayed at the front of the bakery.

The one pictured below is a layer of rich chocolate sponge with crunchy honeycomb pieces encased in a layer of honeycomb cream. The cake is decadent but balanced, perfect for all ages.

I can't recommend ordering or purchasing celebratory cakes here enough. They're ideal for birthdays or just because!

Burnt Basque Cheesecake

If basque cheesecakes are your thing, then Banksia Bakehouse has plenty of them. You can buy them whole or in quarters, making them perfect for sharing or shamelessly enjoying solo!

There's even a matcha flavoured version, which is a fun Asian fusion twist.

Savoury Selection

Banksia Bakehouse isn't just about sweets! They have savoury options too, including hearty gourmet meat pies, flaky sausage rolls, and loaded focaccia sandwiches. Perfect for lunch and dessert.

RECOMMENDED

  • The Swirl Croissant, especially the Biscoff Cheesecake flavour
  • Any of their danishes as the combos are next-level unique
  • Try out their enormous range of macarons
  • Cakes. Don't leave without grabbing one (or two!)

Final Words

Banksia Bakehouse is one spot that makes you feel like you've struck a pastry landmine with all sorts of baked goods you'll discover.

Whether you're a croissant connoisseur or a cake lover doesn't matter. There's something here bound to make your tastebuds jump for joy.

But be warned, limited seating means it's better for takeaway. But honestly, who needs a table when you've got pastries that are this good? You'll gladly munch down on them.
