Basement Brewhouse Review

If you’re after great burgers, craft beer, and a laid-back vibe, Basement Brewhouse in Bankstown Sports Club is worth a visit. And that says a lot coming from me, someone who’s not into sports or beer!

The sports bar is located inside the club, so bring your ID to sign in. You can also sign up for a free membership and get 10% off dining and drinks at select venues.

Bonus: There’s free parking, but don’t forget to validate your ticket at reception before you leave.

The club has heaps of restaurants, so I’ll definitely be back to try more.

I came for lunch on a Tuesday, and it was pretty quiet, with plenty of space and strong aircon — ideal for a hot day.

It’s a sports bar, so expect lots of craft beer options and screens everywhere showing the latest game. After 5pm, it’s strictly 18+.

Also, the barrel-shaped booths are a nice touch.

Specials

  • Happy Hour (4–6pm daily): Deals on wings, burgers, and beer
  • Taco Tuesday: 3 tacos for $15 (members pricing)
  • Wing Wednesday: 1kg fried chicken wings special

Ordering is easy — just scan the QR code on the table. The food and drinks came out quick.

Drinks

There’s an interesting selection of craft beers from local breweries. As always, I’d love to see more non-alcoholic options, but it is a brewhouse, so fair enough.

Brewhouse Sparkling Ale (Middy)

This is a light and refreshing ale, so great for summer. The best part? Only it’s only $6.30 for a middy, which is a steal these days. I can definitely see my partner having a few more of these next visit.

Burgers & Sides

The Basement Brewhouse menu is burger-heavy, but they do them well. There are a few extras like lamb ribs, tacos, wings, and onion rings, but let’s be real – people come here for the burgers.

The Signature Brooklyn

Beef Patty, Jack Cheese, Pickles, Tomato, Lettuce, Chopped Onion, Mustard, Ketchup

Added a side of shoestring fries for $4.

A classic beef burger done right. Juicy patty, fresh toppings, and melted cheese. No complaints. Highly recommend.

Shoestring fries? Crispy, well-salted, and served with habanero mayo – can’t go wrong.

Spicy Chicken Burger

Grilled Chicken, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Habanero Mayo

Added a side of sweet potato fries for $6.

I’m normally a beef burger person, but this one might convert me. Juicy, nicely grilled, and just the right amount of spice in the marinade and sauce. I would definitely order again.

Sweet potato fries were great, especially with the chipotle mayo.

Gareth’s Toilet Review

Before wrapping up, a special segment from Gareth, who is apparently very passionate about toilets.

Gareth's Toilet Review Photo

These are excellent toilets. You walk in and see lovely plants at the entrance — unusual for a sports bar. The brick and tile give it a classy feel, and the lighting is just right — not blinding like most public bathrooms.

In the men’s, there’s a standard toilet and an assisted toilet — handy for older patrons (or those who’ve had one too many beers). The sink has a fancy black marble finish, which I usually associate with fine dining restaurants.

It also has one of those water/dryer combos — I always mess up using these and splash water everywhere, but if you’re coordinated, you’ll be fine.

Final verdict: Top-tier toilets. No complaints.

RECOMMENDED

  • Craft beer selection
  • Signature Brooklyn Burger
  • Spicy Chicken Burger
  • Visit during Happy Hour or on a specials day

Final Words

Basement Brewhouse (and Bankstown Sports Club in general) was a pleasant surprise. These are the best burgers I’ve had in a while. Plus the drinks were well-priced, so it’s a solid casual spot to grab a meal.

Even if you’re not into sports bars, it’s worth a visit. Would definitely come back.
