Pepperoni wood fired pizza with pomodoro fior di latte parmesan and fennel seed, served on a metal try

TL; DR | Summary

Bella Brutta is a charming pizzeria in Newtown.

They serve some of the best wood-fired pizzas in Sydney, with perfect dough and toppings.

The entrees are fantastic, I recommend the Kingfish tartare.

There's a great selection of wines and non-alcoholic drinks.

Bella Brutta Review

In the middle of Newtown, Bella Brutta has a cosy, rustic charm. Inside, there's a long dining area with bar seats, tables, and a welcoming outdoor space. I recommend booking a table online as it can get busy during peak hours.

The atmosphere is made even better by the visible wood-fired oven, where you can watch the chefs make fresh pizzas right in front of you.

The Bella Brutta menu features their specialties, including tasty entrees like pickled eggplant and Kingfish tartare, and delicious pizzas like Margherita, Potato, and Pepperoni. The perfect dough and tasty toppings make this a contender for the best pizza in Sydney.

I've scored them 9/10 as the menu is small, so you might try everything in just 2-3 visits.

For those that are gluten intolerant, please note that they do not offer gluten free pizza bases.

The drink menu has plenty of beers, non-alcoholic drinks, and wines, so there's something for everyone.

Dessert lovers will enjoy their separate menu with treats like cannoli and tiramisu.

Bella Brutta Menu | The Best Pizza In Newtown?

The food at Bella Brutta is simply outstanding. The service is on point and warm, making the dining experience even more enjoyable.

Check out my Bella Brutta photos and a rundown of the dishes I've reviewed:

Blood Orange Shrub Soda

This unique drink with blood orange, red wine vinegar, and soda was a refreshing surprise. Perfect for those opting for a non-alcoholic beverage.

Sicilian Fizz

Though I didn't try it, the Sicilian Fizz with Lyre's aperitif, blood orange, sage, and ginger looked intriguing. It's a drink I would try in the future.

Smoked Sliced Beef Tongue with White Onion and Parsley

Served with a drizzle of EVOO, this dish was beautifully presented and tasted terrific, especially for fans of beef tongue. This dish tastes as good as it looks!

Kingfish Tartare on Gnocco Fritto

This tartare dish was absolutely delicious and worth it. It's a refreshing entree topped with chives that offer a flavour burst with each bite. It's a small but memorable way to start your meal, and I highly recommend everyone orders their own as you won't want to share!

Pepperoni Pizza

This pizza is a classic done right with Pomodoro, fior di latte, parmesan, and fennel seed. It's a pepperoni pizza elevated to new heights. The fennel seed adds a unique twist, and the balance of flavours is spot on. The crust is perfectly crispy yet chewy, making each bite a delight.

Potato Pizza

This pizza features roast potato, fior di latte, gorgonzola, confit garlic, and rosemary, and it was a hearty and flavourful choice. While I'm sceptical about carb-on carbs with the potato, Bella Brutta pulls it off beautifully.

The roast potato adds a texture that pairs well with the sharpness of the gorgonzola and the fragrant rosemary. The confit garlic adds a lovely depth of flavour, making this pizza a must-try for any carb lover.

Clam Pizza

This pizza, topped with surf clams, pecorino, fermented chilli, garlic, parsley, and lemon, had a unique and delightful flavour combination.

However, it could have used more clams, as they were either too finely chopped or not enough to be noticeable. A bit more seafood would improve the overall experience, especially since it's the most expensive pizza on the menu.
