Berowra Waters Inn Menu: A Rare 10/10 Rating

The food entails a six-course menu, along with additional complimentary dishes, and the pricing is set at approximately $220 per person. Considering the standard and uniqueness of a fine dining experience here, I find this cost quite reasonable and a worthwhile investment.

The non-alcoholic drinks we ordered set the stage for the culinary journey ahead, with one resembling cola and the other a rose wine, both intriguing in their presentation and taste. To our delight, there was an additional signature crab course and a palate cleanser to the 6-course dining menu. Both were fantastic! But read on as I show you what you can expect at Berowra Water Inn's set menu experience.

Non-alcoholic Drinks

The brown soda, resembling cola, offered a rich, comforting taste. At the same time, the rose wine look-alike provided a refreshing, fruity alternative. Both drinks were an excellent start to the meal, setting a high standard for the courses to follow.

Vinaigrette on Oysters - Tasmania Pepperberry Dressing

The oysters dressed in a tangy Tasmania Pepperberry dressing were a blast of ocean freshness and peppery zest. A fantastic way to excite the palate.

Beetroot & Parfait Macaron

With its vibrant pink hue, this mini macaron was visually striking and offered a delightful combination of sweet beetroot and creamy parfait. It's a fun-size treat, leaving you craving for more.

Thyme, Ponzu & Artichoke Canelé

The canelé boasts a crispy exterior paired with a soft, chewy centre that those familiar with this beloved French delicacy will surely enjoy. It has a unique blend of earthy artichoke, citrusy ponzu, and aromatic thyme, showcasing an impressive depth of flavours.

Kangaroo Pastrami with Rhubarb & Pyengana

A starter that's presented on a semi-cylindrical crisp, this dish combines kangaroo pastrami's robust flavour with rhubarb's tartness and the grated Pyengana cheese. You can expect an unforgettable taste experience with these heavenly textures and flavours.

Scallop, Nashi & Cucumber

The cured scallop, decorated with zesty lime, glowing crisp cucumber, and sweet nashi slices, offers a fresh, beautifully presented dish that is stunning and delicious. It's a triumph of freshness, combining seafood, fruit, and vegetable in a manner that utilises the strengths of these elements.

Signature Dish - Crab Miso, Roasted Green Onion Oil, Custard

With its foamy appearance and dollops of strikingly green onion oil, this dish was a visual masterpiece. The noticeable bits of crab add a luxurious touch, making every spoonful an absolute delight.

Kingfish, Prawn, Zucchini, and Basil

The combination of pan-fried kingfish, prawn mix wrapped in zucchini, and a generous dollop of basil puree was a testament to the chef's skill in balancing flavours and textures. The squid ink sauce added a dramatic flair to the dish while the presentation remained simple and clean.

Chicken, Corn, and Mushroom

The chicken, served with corn foam and puffed rice, was a comforting dish with crispy skin and a savoury mushroom broth that brought warmth and depth. It's a simple combination in the household but with the added touch of modern flair, making it a completely different dish.

Rye and Malt Sourdough with Brown Butter and Natural Salted Butter

The freshly baked sourdough rolls, accompanied by rich brown butter and creamy salted butter, are a simple yet indulgent way to enjoy a simple loaf of bread. With two generous types of butter, diners can swerve between sweet and salted flavours, ensuring this staple remains an engaging part of the meal. I love the option of switching between sweet and savoury!

Wagyu, Capers, Onion & Sherry

The dry-aged Wagyu, beautifully presented with a blend of capers, onion, and sherry sauce, is a succulent and flavourful experience enhanced by the freshness of the greens. You can expect many flavour profiles to be unravelled as you bite through this main course.

Pistachio Sorbet, Lemon, Olive Oil

This icy bowl of pistachio sorbet is a refreshing palate cleanser, with the lemon and olive oil adding layers of complexity to the nutty flavour of the pistachio. It's light and citrusy, and the olive oil introduces a subtle richness that elevates the entire dessert.

Pineapple and Blood Granita - Fiore di Latte

This was a surprise addition as it wasn't part of the menu and served its purpose well. Combining pineapple and blood orange granita with fiore di latte as a palate cleanser was innovative and invigorating, perfectly setting the stage for the finishing courses.

Native Frozen Nougat, Layer of Apricot

This dessert, presented as a layered square, was intriguing at first sight and looked appetising. The nougat's texture, combined with the sweetness of the apricot, made for a memorable end to the meal. I have never had any dessert like this before, and it's always lovely to see the use of native ingredients!

Complimentary Chocolate Cake

The complimentary chocolate cake is a velvety, rectangular-shaped treat that’s as delicious as it is visually appealing. Accompanied by a lit candle, it symbolises warm and celebratory hospitality, making the dining experience at Berowra Waters Inn even more memorable. It’s the best complimentary cake I’ve had, and I’ve celebrated many Birthdays at finer restaurants.

Cheese Platter

The optional cheese platter, featuring a selection of fine cheeses and accompaniments like fig compote and honeycomb, was a luxurious way to conclude the dining experience. If you are familiar with your cheeses, opt for this as each cheese offers a unique taste profile in junction with the condiments and house-made crackers.

RECOMMENDED

  • Visiting this restaurant at least once
  • Adding in any optional menu items
  • Visiting on a day with good weather (fingers crossed)

Final Words

Berowra Water Inn is not just a meal but a complete dining adventure, from the scenic boat ride to the superb dishes served in a picturesque setting. It's a gastronomic destination that promises and delivers a truly unique and unforgettable dining experience, making it a must-visit for anyone looking for exceptional cuisine in a remarkable location. While it is a trek to get to, as you'll need to drive and then glide over the waters, it's a must-do if you can dedicate a day to this one-of-a-kind Sydney dining adventure.
