So, if you're looking for a high-quality, quick, and easy Portuguese feed, Frangos is the pitstop to make 🤩.⁣ ⁣ Once you try Frangos you'll never want to go anywhere else for your charcoal chicken feasts 😜.⁣ ⁣ There are two sauces I recommend you grab; Frangos chilli sauce and the creamy mayo (they also come mixed) ✅. These two sauces have the right mix of spiciness and creaminess to go with your marinated Portuguese chicken. It's an absolute match made in heaven 😇!⁣ ⁣ The Frangos menu has expanded over the years and you can now find plenty of other tasty dishes to complete your meal 😄. Some worth noting are the Portuguese rice, fresh salads, and sweet BBQ corn. Or, if you're a meat lover, crispy BBQ pork belly 🥓, BBQ marinated lamb rump, or gourmet steak ciabatta 🥪.⁣ ⁣ As a long-time customer, I'm saddened to see they've stopped providing complimentary bread, olives, and sauces when you dine it. It may be due to the pandemic's effect on businesses, so it's understandable. However, the updated menu is promising, so I'll definitely remain a repeat customer 😋.⁣ ⁣ Do note that there is limited seating at the shop, so order your meal to takeaway and enjoy in the comfort of your own home 🙌.⁣ ⁣ ⁣⁣ #frangos #southwestsydney #sydneyfoodiediaries#sydneyeatstreet#sydneydelicious#restaurantssydney#placestovisitsydney ♬ 22 - JayO

Casual and quick Portuguese chicken

The shop has a casual fast food atmosphere, so you can expect quick service. Order at the counter and find a table to sit at, and your food comes out promptly. The standout, however, would have to be the menu, as plenty of well-thought-out items are presented in a mouth-watering manner.

Frango has perfected their signature dish, with the charcoal chicken marinated in its house-made base. The result? Chicken that's always juicy and flavoursome. It's hard to resist when combined with their chilli and mayo sauce. I obviously recommend mixing the sauces together; it'll take your meal to the next level.

Frangos originally opened up in Petersham in 1989 and all owned by the Fernandes family. It's likely you're bound to come across one. Here's a list of locations where you can find Frango's below:

  • Petersham
  • Bella Vista
  • Concord
  • Penrith
  • Gregory Hills
  • Edmondson Park
  • Smithfield

Portuguese Charcoal Chicken

There's nothing better than perfectly cooked succulent chicken. Am I right?

The chicken is marinated in Frango's famous base and cooked on 100% natural charcoal. It pairs perfectly with the sauces, so you can never go wrong with a charcoal chicken meal.

Fun Fact!

Frangos is ranked #2 in my Best Chicken Restaurants in Sydney list. Find out which restaurant ranked #1.

Sauces

I'll never stop raving about Frangos chilli sauce and creamy mayo. Add them individually or order the mixed version that contains both. It's the perfect harmony of firey spice and cooling cream and it's the best accompaniment to your chicken.

There's also a zesty garlic sauce as an alternative, but it's a bit too strong on the citric lemon flavour.

Portuguese Rice

Being Asian, I'm exposed to all kinds of fried rice, and this one reminds me of tomato fried rice that's fluffy and fragrant. It's a great side to complement your main dish, or it could even be eaten on its own. The rice is cooked well and isn't dry, with a good amount of veggies to go with it.

Pork Belly

In the mood for something different? Try the chunky pieces of BBQ marinated crispy pork belly! It has a crispy skin that we all love and juicy meat underneath. It's delicious on all fronts and a surprising highlight at a chicken shop.

Lamb Rump

The lamb rump is marinated in a BBQ base and sliced and grilled with lemon and oregano. As it's sliced into smaller chunks, it was most likely overcooked and pretty tough in texture.

If you like your lamb well done, give it a try, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Frango Chilli Roasted Drumettes

A quick bite for chicken lovers, these little drumettes are marinated before being roasted in the charcoal oven. It is on the dry side, so you may want to dip it into the chilli sauce but otherwise I would give this a miss.

Grandma's Delight

Think of this as a light custard dessert with a sponge throughout. It's creamy and velvety, with a light, fluffy texture. The custard has a unique taste and is a nice treat after your meal. There isn't much sweetness to it, so it's suitable for those who don't like overly sweet desserts.

Sumol

This is the first time I've encountered Sumol, a Portuguese soda. It's similar to sodas you see at the stores, so don't expect anything overly unique.

OG Smithfield store? The first store was the Petersham location, which opened in 1989. Also it’s not a franchise, it’s all owned by the Fernandes family.
