TL; DR | Summary

Gelato Messina in Parramatta is among my top 5 gelato spots in Sydney, thanks to its consistent quality. There are so many gelato flavours to try, including exciting seasonal specials. While there are several other Messina locations, Parramatta remains a standout, one of the originals. For an extra special treat, you can also order their unique gelato cakes, perfect for celebrations.

Gelato Messina Parramatta Review

Gelato Messina on Church Street, Parramatta is a go-to dessert spots for locals. Its prime location on the corner is easily accessible via train and bus, and there are nearby car parks for those driving.

Messina has many stores across Sydney, with gelato shops in Darling Square, Circular Quay, Miranda, and Marrickville, but Parramatta still holds a special place as one of the originals.

You'll notice the limited seating as you walk in, so you're better off getting takeaway here.

The variety of the Gelato Messina Parramatta menu impressive, with over 20 regular flavours plus seasonal specials that keep things interesting and fun. I recommend following their Instagram account to keep up to date with the specials.

You can also combine 2-3 flavours in their milkshakes and thick shakes, which I think is pretty wild! The sky's the limit when mixing and discovering uncharted flavours.

Fun Fact!

Gelato Messina is ranked #5 in my Best Gelato in Sydney list. Find out which gelato shop ranked #1.

Messina isn't afraid to experiment, often incorporating alcohol into their gelato for an added depth of flavour. Their Tiramisu flavour, for instance, includes real coffee liqueur.

I believe Messina's commitment to using quality ingredients and pushing traditional gelato's boundaries is fantastic. This bold approach results in unique and memorable flavours that stand out.

To this date, pear and rhubarb remains a flavour I'll always return for. Let's take a look at some more flavours in my Gelato Messina Parramatta photos below.

Gelato Messina Parramatta Menu & Service

Messina's service is swift, and since they primarily serve gelato and sorbet, you won't have to wait long. The generous scoops are a big plus for me, and the prices are quite reasonable considering the serving size.

I've sampled almost all the flavours, including seasonal ones, and here are a few standouts:

Pear and Rhubarb

A delightful blend of creamy and fruity, this flavour hits the spot every time with its perfect balance of sweetness and freshness.

Poached Figs in Marsala

This is an intriguing flavour that works! It reminds me of a honeycomb with a unique sweetness from the Marsala wine. I just wish there were more figs to bite into, as the 500ml takeaway tub I got didn't have as many.

Strawberries and Cream

A standout for fans of strawberries, this flavour incorporates natural fruit with added creaminess. It's the best strawberry gelato I've had to date.

RECOMMENDED

  • Strawberry and Cream
  • Pear and Rhubarb
  • Try a milkshake of thick shake where you can mix gelato flavours in it
  • Buying a tub to take home (prepare yourself with a thermal bag in advance)

Final Words

Gelato Messina at Parramatta is a must-visit for any gelato enthusiast. The range of flavours, from classic to inventive, ensures there's a flavour for everyone. The quality and portion sizes are fantastic, making it a sweet spot to satisfy your gelato cravings.

I always adore their weekly specials and l cannot help but get a milkshake or thickshake to consume while on the go using one of the specials depending on the ingredients.

Now you’re making me crave a milkshake/thickshake from Messina. Love their weekly specials too (I recommend trying their pear and rhubarb gelato)
