As a long-time foodie, Redfern is one of my havens for cafes, and Hanlip doesn't disappoint. This modern cafe is located on Regent Street and has a treat for everyone.

With both brunch and dessert items on the menu, you'll be spoilt with choices. Start your day with brunch or catch up with friends over a coffee and cake.

Although it's primarily a dessert cafe, they serve quality coffee and their sandwiches are delectable. You'll be satisfied even if you're only popping in for a quick lunch.

The Service At Hanlip Dessert Cafe

Service is friendly and accommodating as the staff are humble and attentive.

The cafe space is lovely with both indoor and outdoor seating. It's a great place to meet a friend or whip out a laptop and do some work.

With a vast menu selection and pleasant service to complement, Hanlip Dessert Cafe is one of my must-visit cafes in Redfern.

The Food At Hanlip Dessert Cafe

The brunch menu offers a classic selection of items such as their well-made toasted sandwiches or the house-made soup of the day (pumpkin or cauliflower).

The food can take some time to come out as they're made fresh to order, however, it's always worth the wait.

As for their dessert menu, there's a lovely selection of mochi roll cakes, tarts, macarons, dacquoise and mini cheesecakes. Share a few sweets with friends while enjoying a hot cup of coffee.

Blueberry Cheesecake

With each bite, the blueberry layered cheesecake is soft and light while still ultra creamy. The cream cheese is perfectly balanced against the blueberry flavouring so it's not too sweet and satisfies the dessert craving.

It's a great choice if you're in the mood for cheesecake.

Turkey and Cranberry Sandwich

The simple and freshly made sandwich is toasted to perfection. The thin layer of cranberry sauce gives a delightful and unexpected sweetness.

The turkey and salad filling provides a good amount of savoury notes and crunch, while the sauce moistens the bread so there is a soft texture too.

Strawberry Cube Cake

This is one of the most aesthetically pleasing cakes you'll come across in Sydney. It features a fair amount of icing sugar and a fresh strawberry on top, making it instantly recognisable.

The cake itself is creamy and soft, with a subtle sweetness that isn't overbearing. Packaged in a cube, it's a cute treat on the go or to share with friends.

Fruit Tarts

When you visit Hanlip Dessert Cafe, you'll come across one of the tallest and fruitiest tarts glistening with fresh fruits on top.

Whether you choose the grape, strawberry or blueberry, the crust is baked well, with a generous amount of cream filling to form a peak for the fruit to sit on.

It's so big that I recommend devouring it in more than one sitting!

Mochi Roll Cake

A crowd favourite. The mochi roll cake consists of the perfect crossover between a sponge and a mochi. Think of it as a lighter and fluffier sponge cake, rolled up with a creamy filling in the centre. There are various flavours, including strawberry, chocolate, melon, earl grey, matcha, black sesame and chestnut.

Dacquoise

If you haven't seen one of these, you'll be in for a fun treat! The Dacquoise is a French dessert made of meringue layered with buttercream. The meringue at Hanlip is coated with a generous amount of dusting. You can expect a soft, fluffy centre with rich buttercream when you bite into it. It's a delicious balance of sweetness and texture in every bite. Their flavours include taro, matcha, café mocha, salted caramel, peanut almond, black sesame and yellow cheese.

Macaron

While macarons are a standard at most cafes, there are exciting flavours that are tempting to try, like pistachio, black sesame and yellow cheese. The texture is on point, with a crisp outer shell and a delicate, chewy inside.

So far, every dessert I've tried at Hanlip has been a hit. I highly recommend a visit to anyone with a sweet tooth!
