Charcoal Chicken Combo With Lebanese Bread, Chips, Garlic Sauce, And Pickles

TL; DR | Summary

You can't go wrong with a classic Hawa charcoal chicken combo. From the juiciness of the chicken to the aromatic garlic sauce and crispy chips, this meal is sure to hit the spot. With its ample restaurant space and hearty meals, this Granville gem is guaranteed to satisfy your chicken cravings.

Hawa Chicken Review

The recently refurbished Hawa Granville has plenty of space to feed the crowds of people every day looking for some charcoal chicken and Mediterranean favourites, such as Shish plates, Shawarma, and rolls.

The chicken is deliciously succulent with a rich garlic sauce, while the chips are nice and crispy. Plus, you can choose from a whole range of side dishes, such as falafels, tabouli, and hummus.

If we're going to compare chicken shops, I much prefer Hawa over El Jannah's in Granville.

Firstly, Hawa is conveniently located next to a large communal car park, making it a more ideal spot for lunch or dinner, especially for those dining in groups. Secondly, the prices are reasonable, and the service is fast.

There are a couple of misses, such as their kibbeh and samke harra (chilli fish), but the classics are great. It's my go-to spot in the area to grab a charcoal chicken meal.

Juicy Charcoal Chicken With Quick Service

I've had the pleasure of visiting the restaurant multiple times and each time the chicken has been ultra juicy and the chips golden. The garlic sauce is perfect with the right balance of garlic, lemon, and creaminess. They do the classics well, but there may be a miss here or there with certain dishes.

The food is reasonably priced and less than what you would pay at El Jannah's. Depending on how busy the restaurant is, the food arrives promptly. You can expect your meal to arrive in under 10 minutes on a good night.

Plus, the restaurant has ample seating available, so you can sit wherever you like! All you have to do is order at the counter and pick your preferred seating.

There will be three more restaurants opening in this space, that's how BIG the area is! So, your options are going to expand to add Asian, fish and chips, and more to the mix.

I do imagine seating will become scarce as the new areas open, but there should still be more than enough due to the vast number of seats in the first place.

Keep an eye on this space!

Charcoal Chicken Combo

There's nothing more satisfying than a tasty charcoal chicken combo. Tearing into the juicy chicken and dipping it into the aromatic garlic sauce, and finishing it off with some crispy chips, it's chef's kiss delicious.

I don't know how they cook a batch of chicken and manage to keep it moist, but some how they do. Plus, the garlic sauce is so addictive, you can't help but ask for more.

It's a terrific meal and you certainly get your money's worth. I can see it continue to satisfy the masses for more years to come.

Fun Fact!

Hawa is ranked #3 in my Best Chicken Restaurants in Sydney list. Find out which restaurant ranked #1.

Kibbeh

Kibbeh is a fan favourite Mediterranean side dish made of meat, bulgur wheat, onion, and spices, shaped into a little football and fried or baked. It's absolutely delicious when prepared well.

Unfortunately, I was disappointed because these were hard, dry, and lacked flavour. It's a shame and I don't recommend ordering this dish as there's not much love put into the preparation of their Kibbeh.

Samke Hamra (Chilli Fish)

I saw an unusual item on the Hawa menu during my food hunt, the first of its kind: Samke Hamra. Traditionally, this dish features baked fish in a spicy tahini sauce.

This, however, was disappointing and tasted odd. The baked fish is coated with tahini with added herbs and spices, but it did not work here. It was almost off-putting as nothing blended well, and I became unsure of what I was eating.

Even if you're in the mood for something different, I would give this a miss.

RECOMMENDED

  • Charcoal chicken combo
  • Extra garlic sauce
  • Visiting when the new restaurants open

Final Words

Hawa comes highly recommended from me for those looking for good charcoal chicken and Mediterranean food in the Granville area.

With plenty of seating and additional restaurants opening soon, it's a great spot for groups of people looking for a tasty feed.
