Delicious Chinese Dumplings From A Family-Run Business

With a prices starting at $12.90 for 14 dumplings, that's almost unheard of in Sydney (especially with rising inflation!). The only downside is that if you want them pan-fried, it's an extra $2.

Having tried both, I can confirm they are equally delicious, and it depends on your preference. I highly suggest you get two varieties of dumplings to alternate between the soft, squishy texture, and the crispy fried texture. Rest assured, an additional $2 for pan-fried is well spent.

Don't expect five star service as the owners and staff aren't native English speakers. But don't let that deter you because it's enough to order your food and have it served promptly.

With complimentary soy sauce, black vinegar, and chilli oil, you have everything at your disposal to customise your dumplings in a way you enjoy the most.

What's executed well is the plethora of dumpling types on the menu. There's the option of 11 pork, 5 chicken, 5 beef, 5 lamb, 6 vegetarian, and 3 seafood, AND THEN there are the pan-fried and steamed dumpling versions.

But that's not all. There's also dumpling soup, entrees and chef's specials. So the only issue is figuring out what to pick, as you'd be curious to try the combinations that haven't been seen at other Chinese restaurants. I guarantee you'll be back for more.

Boiled Dumplings: Pork & Garlic Chive, Chicken & Mushroom

Don't be fooled by its simple appearance! The boiled dumplings are filled with juicy pork, with a good mix of subtle garlic chives and seasoning. It's perfect on its own or dipped with your favourite sauces and chilli oil. At less than $1 a piece, it's an absolute steal.

The chicken and mushroom dumpling was less to my taste. Still, this is the first time I've encountered this combination of ingredients, and I was fascinated by this option. It's filled with tender chicken filling, so this one is decent enough but more catered to specific tastes.

Pan-Fried Dumplings: Beef & Leek

Beef & leek dumplings? Delish! I wasn't too sure about beef dumplings, as they're a bit of a unique twist to the traditional pork, but these pan-fried dumplings come with a delightful burst of flavour!

The beef filling was prepared well, and the skins were crispy and golden, making it the perfect pan-fried dumpling. It's even better if you pair it with their house made chilli oil.

Is it worth the extra $2 for pan-fried dumplings? I'd say so.

Wonton Soup with Dumplings

Don't set your expectations too high if you've been to the famous Tan Viet Noodle House. This version of wonton soup is slightly different as they don't use egg noodles, making it appear predominantly white.

The soup broth is light yet still comforting, but you can give this a miss if you've had good wonton noodle soup. The dumplings themselves are essentially on-par with the dumplings served at the restaurant.

RECOMMENDED

  • Pork & chives dumplings
  • Beef & leek dumplings
  • A mix of boiled and pan-fried dumplings

Final Words

Hot Dumplings are an excellent spot for a quick bite, whether for lunch or dinner. All in all, they offer the perfect balance of quality, variety and affordability when it comes to their dumplings.

Plus, there are heaps of dumpling varieties you don't see at other restaurants. I highly recommend this restaurant for those seeking a cheap and delicious dumpling fix!
