TL; DR | Summary

Jang Ta Bal in Strathfield is a renowned KBBQ restaurant known for its quality meats and Korean Barbecue experience. Despite often having a queue, their efficient mobile queuing system ensures you're notified when your table is ready. With a menu featuring all your favourite meats from beef to pork, chicken and seafood, Jang Ta Bal stands as a go-to spot for many KBBQ enthusiasts.

Jang Ta Bal Strathfield Review

Settled in the Korean hotspot, Strathfield, Jang Ta Bal has maintained its reputation as a popular destination for Korean BBQ lovers. Every Sydneysider knows of Jang Ta Bal, or as we call it, "JTB".

There's almost always a queue at JTB, highlighting its popularity and food quality. The restaurant is medium-sized, with seating arrangements spread across the front and back, providing a cosy atmosphere for diners.

But don't let the potentially long wait deter you. They have a convenient mobile queuing system, allowing you to explore the nearby area or relax until you receive a call or SMS that your table is ready.

Once you're in, every meat on the menu will satisfy your tastebuds. You can't go wrong with any KBBQ options here, with each protein option promising a palatable experience (I'm talking juicy tender meats!). There's also a good selection of Korean sides, including kimchi, fishcakes, and mashed potatoes, which you can replenish for free.

Jang Ta Bal Strathfield Menu & Service

If you're looking for authentic Korean BBQ, JTB is the place to go. The restaurant offers free condiments and a variety of meats perfect for grilling, including beef, pork, and seafood. But it's not only BBQ here, there's also marinated raw crab, fried rice and hot pot on the menu, so you're not just stuck with pure Korean BBQ.

However, as a long-time fan, I proudly visit JTB just for the KBBQ. In addition, the service complements the dining experience well and consistently, with staff members who are quick to serve and replace your grill. They also watch to ensure that your meat and seafood are cooked to perfection should you need assistance (so it's okay if you're not a confident cook!).

Fresh Wagyu Oyster Blade

The fresh wagyu oyster blade is juicy and flavourful, what more could you ask for? This premium cut of beef, known for its tenderness and marbling, cooks beautifully on the grill, offering a melt-in-your-mouth experience that is both indulgent and purely satisfying without being overly expensive.

Fresh Wagyu Intercoastal (Rib Fingers)

The wagyu intercoastal, or rib fingers, is another must-try (my go-to KBBQ meat!). The meat is flavourful and slightly fatty, with a bit of chew that I find particularly enjoyable. When grilled to perfection, it provides a delightful taste and texture compared to the other cuts of beef.

Ox Tongue

I tried the normal and wagyu ox tongue and found that while the wagyu version is fantastic, the normal ox tongue holds its own quite well. While eating a tongue may not sound appetising, it has a delightful texture and a rich, beefy flavour that makes it a standout choice. In fact, I'd recommend sticking with the usual ox tongue for its straightforward, satisfying taste.

Marinated Galbi

The marinated galbi, or beef short ribs, is a classic choice that never disappoints. The meat is delicate, tender and infused with a sweet and savoury marinade that caramelises beautifully on the grill. Each bite of galbi is a perfect harmony of flavour and texture, making it a dish I always look forward to if you don't mind a hint of sweetness from the marinade.

Pork Jowl

The pork jowl at is a true indulgence for meat lovers. Its tenderness is immediately noticeable (in my photo), with a rich, fatty appearance that promises a melt-in-your-mouth experience. This dish is a must-try for anyone who appreciates the finer nuances of good quality pork.

RECOMMENDED

  • Wagyu oyster blade
  • Wagyu rib fingers
  • Pork jowl
  • Planning ahead to avoid long queues or plan for additional time

Final Words

With its well-curated selection of meats and attentive service, Jang Ta Bal Strathfield offers an authentic and enjoyable KBBQ experience. It doesn't matter if you're there for the wagyu delights or the traditional marinated galbi; you're in good hands with the staff, ensuring your dining experience is as delightful as the food. You're a seasoned KBBQ enthusiast.
