TL; DR | Summary

La Mono Merrylands is much more than just your stock standard charcoal chicken shop. The revamped menu features the perfect mix of all your Lebanese favourites including kebabs, skewers, burgers, snack packs and more. A satisfying meal awaits!

La Mono Review

Full disclosure: I was extended an invitation to visit La Mono but I can assure you, I would visit again using my own money. Whilst I was expecting your average kebab and chicken shop meal, I was pleasantly surprised and got much more!

In addition to the classic charcoal chicken, the restaurant serves up delicious and hearty Lebanese meals ranging from BBQ Shish Tawook to roasted cauliflower and Fattoush salad. Plus, there's no better way to finish your feast than with a strawberry Ashta. This new La Mono menu is bursting with options that will tingle your taste buds every time.

With plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and friendly staff, this is a great place to stop for a comfort feed with the family. For the Merrylands area, the restaurant is reasonably priced so I would feel comfortable recommending it to you.

Wholesome Lebanese Food & Service

At La Mono, charcoal chicken is their specialty and it definitely lives up to the hype. I've visited both the Merrylands & Casula locations multiple times and each time the chicken was exceptionally juicy.

The kebabs and burgers are pretty standard but will satisfy your cravings, especially if you're looking for a quick meal.

However, what makes them different to other chicken shops is the number of sides, salads, and desserts on offer. I can guarantee that you won't leave the restaurant hungry.

In terms of the service, you can mostly expect it to be quick and speedy. There can be some wait time during busy periods but the staff are always friendly and accomodating, so you'll know in advance.

Like most popular restaurants, it's always packed during peak hour. So, get in early and beat the line.

Charcoal Chicken Combo

Marinated quarter chicken with garlic sauce, chips, hommus, tabouli, and pickles.

Like I said, the charcoal chicken is consistently juicy. However, on some occasions it may be on the drier side if it's been sitting out for a while.

For me, garlic sauce is the most crucial part of a charcoal chicken meal and I'm glad to say this is one of the better sauces I've eaten.

This is a well rounded and filling meal for someone looking to enjoy a classic chicken and chips combination.

Fun Fact!

La Mono is ranked #4 in my Best Chicken Restaurants in Sydney list. Find out which restaurant ranked #1.

Beef Kebab & Chicken Burger

Beef Kebab: Kebab filled with beef, lettuce, pickles, and sauce.

Chicken Burger: Burger bun filled with char-grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, and La Mono sauce.

The kebabs and burgers are pretty standard. They're nothing to write home about but still enjoyable.

The bread is always fresh and packed with tasty fillings.

Fattoush Salad

Lettuce, tomato, cucumber, radish, parsley, onion, shallots, mint, tossed with fried bread, lemon juice, and extra virgin olive oil.

The Fattoush salad is huge! It's a highlight of any Lebanese feast with it's fresh and flavourful greens and crispy textural elements that keeps your taste buds entertained.

I'm not a salad person, but I enjoyed their Fattoush salad and love it's presentation in the little basket.

Cauliflower

Fried cauliflower served with Tahini sauce.

I never thought I would be recommending fried cauliflower, but here I am. It's a must-have side!

Served in big chunks, it's charred and seasoned to perfection. It's a great vegetarian and vegan option and is one of the healthier items on the menu.

Don't let this sit out on your table for too long. It's best eaten straight away while it's still hot.

Meat Sumbusik

Minced lamb, crushed almonds & onion wrapped in fine pastry & lightly fried.

Meat sumbusik are usually a great snack item to get your meal started. These were not overly tasty but if you're sharing, then it's worth a try.

Hommus Dip

A puree of chick peas, blended with Tahini sauce & lemon juice.

It's hard to make hommus new and exciting, so this is essentially like any other. However, it is presented beautifully. It's a lovely accompaniment to your bread or meat and adds some extra creaminess and umami flavour to your meal.

Desserts

There's quite an interesting selection of desserts on the menu for a chicken restaurant.

The chocolate sundae has layers of chocolate and sauce, served with a generous topping of whipped cream, and a wafer stick. It's a treat on the eyes and the tummy.

The Nutella crepes are drizzled with Belgian chocolate and served with bananas, strawberries, and ice cream. The crepes are light and fluffy with a good amount of Nutella.

Giotto Gelato Cakes

For something extra fancy, there are also specialty Giotto gelato cakes.

Captured below is the Passionfruit gelato cake. It's a hidden delight of fresh passionfruit and creamy gelato encased in a decadent dark choclate shell. Allow time for it to melt, as it most likely came straight from the freezer.

Fruit Shakes

Once a seasonal special, I sincerely hope they make it a permanent item on the menu. There's no other establishment I've seen that does a fruit shake with FOUR flavours! The flavours were:⁣⁣

  • Mango
  • Avocado
  • Tropical
  • Strawberry

⁣Final Thoughts

If you're ever in the Merrylands area and looking for an easy place to eat, check out La Mono! Their food is varied and reasonably priced. Even if you're not a chicken fan, there are plenty of other options available that make it easy to decide.
