Located on the corner of John Street, Mama Tang is right in the heart of Cabramatta. It's constantly bustling with repeat customers so it's no wonder this popular restaurant is always crowded in peak hour.

Over time, Mama Tang has improved to ensure a consistent and efficient dining experience.

The restaurant has a casual atmosphere, which makes it perfect for a quick meal or a catch up with friends.

With four Malatang menu options and the recent addition of half n half, the selection of food is endless!

The Food and Service At Mama Tang

Mama Tang offers an array of Malatang options, with various types of meat, seafood, vegetables, noodles, and more to fill your customised bowl.

If you've never had Malatang before, let me introduce you to this delicious fare. Malatang allows you to build your own bowl of noodle soup with your favourite ingredients. You can choose to either have it dry (no soup) or with a range of tasty soup broths.

While you wait, there's a convenient sauce and condiment station with takeaway contains and utensils to add your preferred flavours and toppings.

This also makes it perfect for takeaway, as it tastes just as good reheated the next day.

Fun Fact!

Mama Tang is ranked #5 in my Best Malatang in Sydney list. Find out which restaurant ranked #1.

Broth

Previously, Mama Tang's broth needed a bit of work as it was quite bland. However, over time the flavour has improved across all four types of the broth, namely:

  • Spicy Mama
  • Mama’s Braised Beef
  • Grandma’s Vegetables
  • Sour Nana
  • Ah Gong (dry)

My top picks for broth are the Spicy Mama, Braised Beef, and Sour Nana (tom yum).

A tip for an additional flavour hit is to add the free fish sauce condiment to your broth. No more bland broths!

Malatang Types

Ordering

You can get at least 500g in food for $13.50, so you can definitely satisfy your cravings for customised bowls of noodles, meat, veggies, and more.

The best part about Malatang is that you pay by weight. So you can try one piece of everything is you want without having to pay an arm and a leg.

You can also share a bowl with a friend if one of you isn't a big eater, to avoid the minimum weight requirement.

Condiments

There's nothing better than customising your soup to your preferences. Mama Tang allows you to spruce up your broth with condiments such as fish sauce, soy sauce, garlic paste, Sichuan peppercorn, chilli oil, siracha sauce, salt and pepper.

I highly recommen taking this extra step as it makes all the difference.

Dumplings

Dumplings are usually the perfect side to go along with a hot bowl of Malatang, however, the pan-fried dumplings here are pretty average and oily.

Similarly, the steamed dumplings lacked flavour. So, I don't think dumplings are a specialty at Mama Tangs.

There are better dumplings in Sydney, and I would give these a miss. If there were more flavour and less oil, then we would have a perfect meal.

Milk Tea

Did you know Mama Tang also offers milk tea? This is super convenient and allows you to have a one stop complete meal in Cabramatta. However, do be wary that the milk tea is fairly small in size.

RECOMMENDED

  • Any broth except Ah Gong (dry Malatang)
  • Adding fish sauce to add flavour to broth
  • Pick up/eat in over delivery

FEATURED

  • Customised Malatang: Spicy Mama, Sour Nana, Grandma's Vegetables & Ah Gong (dry)
  • Milk Tea

Overall, I'd say Mama Tang is a great spot to go if you're ever in the mood for some delicious Malatang. The options are endless as you can add as many or as few ingredients (min $12) as you like, and the broth options are terrific. I'd definitely recommend this place to visit the area!
