Pancho’s Mexican Restaurant Review

A local favourite in Riverwood for authentic Mexican food.

Pancho’s Mexican Restaurant is a small but popular spot on the corner of a main road. It’s a hit with locals, and we saw a steady flow of takeaway orders throughout the night.

The staff are friendly and provide great service, which makes the experience even better. If you have dietary restrictions, the Panchos menu has plenty of gluten-free and vegetarian options to choose from.

This place gets packed on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead is a must. If you’re lucky, there might even be live music!

Panchos Menu | Authentic And Delicious

The menu offers classic Mexican dishes, and I highly recommend asking for a side of their homemade chilli sauce if you want an extra kick with your tacos or combination plate.

I’ve dined here a few times now and have always had a great meal. Here’s what we ordered during our last visit.

Drinks

The drinks menu has some great options, but it would be nice to see more non-alcoholic choices like agua fresca or horchata.

Margarita

Cointreau, Tequila, Lemon Juice, Sugar, And Salt

The margarita is a classic done right. It’s sour, strong, and topped with frothed egg whites, which gives it a beautiful texture. The salt rim is generous, and the balance of flavours is spot on.

Espresso Martini

Vodka, Kahlua, Coffee, And Cream

This espresso martini looks like a milkier version of a standard espresso martini, with the usual three coffee beans on top.

The cream isn’t listed in the ingredients on the menu, but it adds a smooth touch. It has a nice mix of cool coffee and cream flavours, followed by a warm kick from the alcohol.

It’s a great drink to enjoy before or after your meal.

Entrees & Tapas

Stuffed Jalapeno

Jalapeno Filled With Philadelphia Cheese, Crumbed & Fried

The seeds are left in, so the stuffed jalapenos pack a good amount of heat. It’s not something you see on menus often, which makes it a standout.

They come in a pair, making them perfect for sharing. They’re rich, spicy, and moreish.

Garlic Bread

The garlic bread is a must-order. It’s only $5.50, which is a bargain, especially considering the four large slices you get.

The bread is toasted just right, loaded with butter, garlic, and parsley. It’s simple but tasty. We order it every time we come here.

House Dishes

Eye Fillet Steak

Grilled Eye Fillet Steak Flambe With Brandy, Topped With Port Sherry Sauce, And Served With Potatoes And Vegetables

I ordered the steak medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. The steak was soft and easy to cut through, with a generous portion size.

The port sherry sauce is especially delicious. There’s no strong alcohol taste — just a rich, gravy-like flavour that almost reminds me of mushroom sauce.

The potatoes were soft and fluffy, while the vegetables were crisp and fresh.

It’s a great meal, even for people with dentures! My dad ordered this one and couldn’t stop raving about it.

Mustard Chicken

Pan Fried Chicken Fillet Topped With Mustard Sauce And Served With Vegetable And Rice

The sauce was creamy and full of flavour without the mustard being overpowering. The thin chicken fillet was cooked perfectly, though the portion was smaller than expected.

If you’re really hungry, you’ll probably want an entrée or dessert as well.

RECOMMENDED

  • Stuffed jalapeno
  • Garlic bread

Pancho’s Mexican Restaurant in Riverwood is a great spot for authentic Mexican food with friendly service and a lively atmosphere. It’s affordable, delicious, and worth booking ahead if you’re heading there on a weekend. Definitely give it a go!
