TL; DR | Summary

Restaurant Hubert stands tall as a beacon of French culinary excellence in the heart of Sydney. This gem delivers an authentic French dining experience from its atmospheric ambience, marked by dim lighting and spacious seating, to its rich menu, ranging from raw tuna to gnocchi and beyond. Adding live performances and a well-appointed bar area enhance the restaurant's allure, making it a must-visit for locals and tourists alike. Let's not also forget that the food here is worthy of repeat visits!

Restaurant Hubert Review

Hubert Restaurant has etched its name as a premier destination for French cuisine devotees like myself. Its consistent quality and broad display of menu items, including escargots (snails), whole chicken, and caviar roe boat, highlights their wide range of expertise. The restaurant's inviting ambience, with low lighting and elegantly spaced seating, sets the stage for an intimate dining experience. Moreover, the performances occasionally grace the venue and add a layer of entertainment that ensures a visit to Hubert becomes an unforgettable dinner memory.

The diverse menu caters to various palates, featuring raw delicacies such as oysters and tuna, an ample selection of entrees, grilled meats, and specialties like roasted fish and confit duck. Despite the upscale offerings, Hubert maintains an approachable vibe, with diners having the option to indulge in entrees and small dishes alone. In our case, that's exactly what we did.

However, it's worth noting that the pricing reflects the high quality of the dishes, with entrees ranging from $19-42 and mains beginning at $52. For those seeking an immersive French dining experience, booking ahead is advised to secure a spot in this sought-after Sydney gem.

The Finest French Food In Sydney?

Every dish, from the starters to the desserts, is meticulously crafted using only the finest cooking techniques and ingredients. The entrees on the Restaurant Hubert menu, in particular, are a highlight, with the escargots and Wagyu tartare providing a sensational start to the meal.

I love French cuisine for its sophisticated cooking techniques and quality. Hubert is a prime example of this as they blend traditional French techniques with a modern flair.

Additionally, the service at Hubert matches its food's excellence, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. The ambience of the restaurant, coupled with the quality of the service, ensures that each visit is not merely a meal but a guaranteed memorable dining experience.

The only reason I wouldn't score this 10/10 is because the main dishes don't quite live up to the hype and can be lacking in that real wow factor.

Roe Boat Sea Urchin, Trout Roe, Avruga Tart

A simple yet clever use of textures and colours blended sea urchin and two types of roe into a single, harmonious tart that was visually and gastronomically pleasing. You can eat it in one bite for a massive wave of seafood umami haven or in smaller bites to experience the complete hit of each seafood element.

Escargots XO

The roasted snails served with XO butter and a crispy Hubert baguette, are a palate revelation. Thanks to its rich, savoury flavours and tender consistency, even those hesitant about trying snails would find this dish surprisingly delightful. It's a great take on the classic to introduce those who aren't fond of the idea of eating snails.

Soufflé au Gruyère

While the Gruyère soufflé's cheesy richness was undeniable, its intensity might overwhelm some palates, making it a dish best enjoyed in moderation. This dish is best shared to avoid a one-dimensional taste experience.

Prime Beef Tartare

The Wagyu topside tartare, accentuated with classic condiments and crispy potato strips, had a plethora of texture and taste. Many marinaded flavours and crispy and tender elements are at play in each bite.

Duck Parfait

The liver mousse, complemented by maple syrup jelly and served with Hubert's signature baguette, was a standout for its delicately smooth texture and substantial depth of flavour. I highly recommend ordering this every time you visit Hubert, especially considering the bread is made in-house.

Gnocchi Parisienne

This dish has genuinely raised the bar for gnocchi, with a soft, pillowy texture that melts in the mouth. On top, there's a delicate, crispy, cheesy crisp that adds a delightful crunch. Be warned, once you've had these, no other gnocchi will compare.

Mushroom au Poivre

A simple yet satisfying dish, the giant confit field mushroom served with a peppercorn sauce was a hearty vegetarian option. The only flip side is that it lacked the complexity of other menu items, and its appearance could have been more appealing as it's just a giant head of mushroom.

1kg T-bone Steak

Perfectly cooked to medium-rare, the T-bone steak was a main highlight, showcasing the meat's quality and the grill's skill, accompanied by well-paired condiments. You generally can't go wrong with a steak option at Hubert.

Crème Caramel

Ending the meal on a sweet note, the classic egg custard with its overflow of bitter caramel had a beautiful appeal. Its lightness complements the richness of previous courses perfectly, offering a smooth and velvety texture, and serves well as a memorable finale.

The Beef Tartare at Hubert is a must-order for sure. Textural with the deep-fried Potato-like straws.

The tartare was goood. Love it when it’s accompanied well texturally like in this case
