Sekka Dining Review

@bestspots.com.au Sekka Dining isn't just a top contender for the best ramen in Sydney ⬇️ ⁣ ⁣ This modern Izakaya also offers Japanese BBQ, giving you plenty of reasons to visit and enjoy the broad menu 😋. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, with friendly staff. Whether you're in the mood for ramen, skewers, or anything else Japanese 🇯🇵, Sekka will guarantee a delicious dining experience. ⁣ ⁣ Located in Sydney's lower North Shore, Sekka is a refined Japanese dining space perfect for a celebratory night out or a special get-together 🎉. The ramen offerings are top-notch and the BBQ menu is robust and full of flavour 🤤, based on what I've tried so far. The everyday Japanese dishes that feature on the menu have a unique spin on them whilst maintaining a premium quality.⁣ ⁣ I have nothing but good things to say about Sekka 😀. While it is on the high end of price ($20 for a bowl of ramen), you can tell there is a lot of technique and attention to detail in everything they do. From how the meat is presented to the details in the plating 🍽️, you can see this restaurant cares about quality.⁣ ⁣ Each dish I've tried so far has been outstanding, and did not fail to impress with both the presentation and taste. Sekka is sure to become one of Sydney's go-to Japanese restaurants in no time 👌! ⁣ ⁣ ➡️ To see everything else about Sekka, go to bestspots.com.au⁣ ⁣ ⁣⁣ #sydneyeat#eatsydney#sydneyyfoodie#sydneyfoodiestour#sydneyfoodphotographer ♬ Headlights (feat. A sophisticated Japanese Izakaya in Sydney's North Shore

From the moment you step foot into the restaurant you'll see the interior and service dripping in sophistication and class. The sleek and modern furnishing allows the bold and colourful food to really shine, photos don't do it justice.

The staff provide fast service, and the chefs are quick on their feet. The food is cooked precisely, and the flavours are well-balanced, leaving you wanting more. I visited during lunch, which was a pleasant experience. But, I'll definitely be back for the dinner menu!

The standout dish at Sekka has to be the ramen. The broth is packed with flavour, and the toppings add a textural layer, making the dish even more enjoyable. With Miso, Tonkotsu, and Shio broths on the menu, I guarantee you'll be returning to try out all the flavours.

The Sekka ramen is slightly different due to the way they prep their pork belly chashu and chicken, giving the bowl a more complex flavour. It's also worth mentioning that their egg is marinated properly and perfectly cooked.

But it doesn't stop there! There is a range of other Japanese dishes and BBQ skewers available on Sekka Dining's menu. I can recommend the wagyu tartare and pork gyoza. The tartare had a unique combination that works well and the gyoza is juicy and flavoured well.

I'm also a big fan of innovation, so having double-sided chopsticks makes a lot of sense in an establishment like this, where both ramen and BBQ options are on offer.

Wagyu Tartare with Fried Enoki and Potato

Fresh, flavourful and beautifully presented - the wagyu tartare is an absolute delight. Served with a unique soy sauce mixture and potato pieces and topped off with crispy fried enoki, it is a flavour bomb in every bite. The textures of the crunchy enoki, fresh wagyu and softness of the potato all went together perfectly! I highly recommend it for a great start to your meal.

Gyoza with House XO

Don't let its appearance fool you, these Gyoza are packed with flavour with a nice crispy wrapper. The pork filling has just the right amount of seasoning in every bite. Then there's also the gyoza sauce that ties it all together, making them the perfect accompaniment to any ramen.

Tonkotsu Spicy Ramen

Pork paitan broth, pork neck chashu (medium rare), umami egg, bamboo shoots, leek, and house red chilli oil

This is probably the only ramen in Sydney where the chashu is medium rare, a brave move but one that pays off. Because of its pinkness, the pork neck chashu is extra juicy and incredibly tender while adding flavour. The broth is creamy and full-bodied, while the chilli oil gives it a nice kick. Then with the addition of leek, bamboo shoots, green onions and a perfectly cooked and marinated egg, makes this is the perfect bowl of ramen.

Fun Fact!

Sekka Dining is ranked #3 in my Best Ramen in Sydney list. Find out which restaurant ranked #1.

Jidori Shio

Aged chicken chintan broth, poached chicken, umami egg, bamboo shoots, shallots, leek, and nori

I have to say, this could be the winner for best chicken ramen in Sydney, and possibly Australia. The aged chicken broth is light yet well-flavoured, and the poached chicken is tender and juicy. The umami egg and nori adds another layer of flavour to the dish, and the noodles are cooked just right and have a nice bite to them.

As the cooking method is quite unique, there is a slight chance of tasting the raw side of the chicken (a rare occurrence) but if you can put that fear aside, the meat is super tender.

House XO

I had to try the House XO sauce, and not surprisingly, it goes well with almost anything. This XO sauce has a good balance of sweet, umami, and spicy flavours, with a pleasant fragrance. I recommend this as an add-on if you want even more flavour!

RECOMMENDED

  • Any ramen
  • Gyoza
  • Wagyu Tartare
  • Visiting for their dinner menu

Final Words

Sekka Dining is one of the great, hidden gem Japanese restaurants in Sydney and a must-visit for anyone looking for an incredible ramen experience. The setting is elegant, the food is fantastic, and the service is friendly and fast. The prices are slightly high, but it is worth it for the quality. All in all, Sekka will undoubtedly satisfy your craving for authentic Japanese cuisine, whether that's ramen or other Japanese favourites!
