Tan Viet Noodle House Review

Tan Viet Cabramatta is a Vietnamese food landmark that has been serving foodies for decades (me included).

It's modernised over the years but keeps its traditional roots at heart with the Vietnamese food they serve.

As such, this spot has remained a reliable go-to for traditional comfort food for many Cabramatta locals and visitors alike.

Fun Fact!

Tan Viet is ranked #2 in my Best Restaurants in Cabramatta list. Find out which restaurant ranked #1.

The restaurant's exterior and interior are sleek, clean, and surprisingly spacious, perfect for solo lunches and large group outings.

You can expect a casual atmosphere where everything is already set up for you from the sauces and condiments to complimentary hot tea.

One downside is that there is likely to be a queue during peak hours. As an alternative, you can choose to grab their branded takeaway instead to enjoy for another night. The options include lemongrass chilli chicken with rice and their pork and prawn wonton soup.

Tan Viet Noodle House Menu

When you choose to dine in, you'll come to a menu that is diverse. It's the perfect restaurant to introduce people unfamiliar with Vietnamese food or Cabramatta in general.

In addition to their signature crispy chicken, there are plenty of rice dishes, noodle dishes, curries, and spicy beef stews.

Then there are customisable noodle options, allowing you to create your perfect bowl, but honestly, their menu is already set up with the best combinations.

Also noteworthy is that their drinks menu offers Vietnamese iced coffee, fresh soy milk, and authentic desserts. It can be hard to resist these options as an alternative to walking elsewhere in Cabramatta.

Considering economic times, their prices are reasonable, and the portions are fair. It also helps that the service is efficient even during peak times, so you're guaranteed a smooth casual dining experience.

What I've Tried From Tan Viet's Menu

The dishes at Tan Viet consistently deliver a solid hit of flavours, and other restaurants don't come close to what Tan Viet offers in terms of quality. Let's take a look at the dishes I ordered:

Signature Crispy Chicken with Egg Noodles (Dry)

This is the hero dish, hands down. The crispy skin on the chicken is pure joy, paired beautifully with egg noodles and a complementary sauce.

Adding a side soup and fresh bean sprouts completes this hearty dish. While this dish has a soup version, I suggest the dry noodle version to enjoy the hidden sauce under the noodles.

My little hack is adding a spoonful of the side soup to help coat the sauce over the noodles.

Marinated Cubed Rump Steak with Tomato Rice

Garlic lovers, rejoice! This dish is full of goodness.

While the steak is tender and well-marinated, I find this to be a good alternative to noodles. The tomato rice offers a pleasant alternative to plain white rice, and the accompanying soup ties everything together, making it a complete meal.

Pork and Prawn Wonton Soup

I used to really enjoy this dish, but lately, I have mixed feelings about it. The prawn component is lacking, almost disappearing into the dish. It's a lighter meal option that can be bulked up by adding egg noodles.

Goat Curry

Goat may be an unconventional protein, but the Vietnamese genuinely know how to make it shine! Their goat curry is a rich and flavourful dish I'd happily recommend if you're a fan of Vietnamese-style curries.

The curry pairs beautifully with a bread roll. Although, though fair warning from me, you'll probably need more than one to mop up all that delicious, aromatic soup.

Stay tuned for photos of this dish.

RECOMMENDED

  • Signature Crispy Chicken with Egg Noodles (Dry version)
  • Marinated Cubed Rump Steak with Tomato Rice
  • Goat Curry
  • Vietnamese Iced Coffee for a classic beverage pairing

Final Words

Tan Viet's restaurant captures the heart of Vietnamese cuisine with its incredible Signature Crispy Chicken and an extensive menu that keeps things exciting. It's a place I'll always come back to for both nostalgia and great food.

Have you been to Tan Viet, and what's your go-to order? I'd love to hear your thoughts on any other comparable Vietnamese restaurants!
