Food Recommendations: Top Cafes in Sydney

Number 5: Auvers Cafe
A lovely cafe with exquisite cuisine that is as delightful to look at as it is to eat. Auvers Cafe is worthy of its reputation as a top cafe in Sydney.
The menu at Auvers Cafe is inventive and creative, offering something delightful for everyone at the table.
Ordinary pork belly dish? No, it's 8 hours braised in 5 spice pork belly!
Want a pancake? It will be matcha and red bean paste dipped in raspberry sorbet.
Also, their frozen desserts are super insta-worthy while still tasty.
With delicious French & Asian-inspired flavours, one of my favourites being the squid ink XO seafood spaghetti dish, you cannot possibly underwhelm your friends in this establishment.⣠This is one of the examples of where fusion food is done correctly.
I can confirm both locations are solid, but my review focuses on the one in Darling Square, my favourite of the two.
Number 4: Cafe 0.6 Alexandria
Alexandria's best-kept secret. From the interior to the intriguing menu, Café 0.6 is the perfect place for the curious eater. They go beyond simple cafe food and deliver a tasty Okonomiyaki-inspired centrepiece to roast duck and avo or prawn croissant.
This charming cafe has a menu full of exciting fusion and creative dishes with personalities that will make you want to revisit it repeatedly.
There may be a hit or miss with their creativeness, I mean, they have a bug tail roll on the current menu, but there's always something new to try that may pique your interest if you are brave.
Number 3: Devon Cafe Barangaroo
Devon Café, now also located in Barangaroo, has been a favourite of mine since its early days in Surry Hills. With a modern and inviting ambience, it's perfect for a relaxed brunch or casual lunch. Although pricier due to high-quality ingredients, the meals generally justify the cost.
Their menu features creative Japanese-influenced dishes, with standouts like the Spicy Mentai Salmon Bowl and Chicken Katsu Sando.
However, it's their rotating menu and must-try desserts that keep the experience new and exciting. For these reasons, Devon Café remains one of my top cafe choices for its innovative and delicious executions.
Number 2: Bare Witness Rhodes
Bare Witness is the cafe that impresses every diner across all fronts, utilising fresh seasonal produce throughout its menu. Thoughtfully, a vast selection includes Risotto, lamb ribs, or lobster rolls.
The coffee is excellent, and the large interior and spacious setting are necessary because it is so crowded!
Bare Witness could be described as the cafe that has it all. Located in the heart of Rhodes, this cafe is always popular. Overall, a great all-rounder atmosphere and a solid reason to return again and again for the food.
The Best Cafe: Edition Roasters
A Japanese and Scandinavian twist in a beautiful modern cafe setting awaits you at Edition Roasters. With the beautiful rustic interior complete with aromatic coffee and a menu that does not disappoint. So much so, this is my top pick for Cafe Best Spots!
It also has a unique dark interior, making it the perfect place for a catch-up or a casual first date. I recommend visiting the Darling Square location to experience its beautiful ambience.
While the menu is not expansive, this can be a good thing as I can attest that every dish has been finetuned and perfected to give each diner a memorable experience. If you want lots of selection, this will be satisfied in the sheer choices of coffee beans and brewing methods. The coffee roasting process is called 'Omni roasting', and the inner coffee geek will delight at the highlights of each bean Edition Roasters possess.
The menu does update once in a while, so there's always something new to look forward to trying. There's also a selection of Japanese and Scandinavian-inspired cookies and pastries available from the front counter, and they all look pretty yummy.
That's it! Our 5 Sydney cafe recommendations!
