Traditional Vietnamese restaurant known for their Vietnamese pork chop

Perfect for those who enjoy authentic Vietnamese broken rice dishes

Tuong Lai Review

I’m almost embarrassed to say it took me decades to finally try Tuong Lai! I’ve always loved pork chop with broken rice, but I kept putting off my visit since no one in my household is a huge fan of the dish.

When I first walked into the restaurant, I could tell that the atmosphere is pretty much what you’d expect for a traditional Vietnamese restaurant in Cabramatta.

Fun Fact!

Tuong Lai is ranked #10 in my Best Restaurants in Cabramatta list. Find out which restaurant ranked #1.

Picture a restaurant that’s been around for decades, with typical Asian decor that lets the food do all the talking.

Tuong Lai's menu sticks to Vietnamese staples, emphasising delicious pork chop and broken rice combinations.

There’s a small selection of noodle dishes, but you’re here for the pork chop.

Not only do they serve tasty Vietnamese food, you get it at an affordable price.

Their portions are pretty generous, and their speciality to Pork Chop and Broken Rice remains solid.

The usual and the more traditional accompaniments make it a go-to spot for broken rice lovers like myself. I find broken rice textural and fun, but others prefer their regular jasmine rise.

So, if you’ve been looking for genuine Vietnamese flavours, Tuong Lai is a must-visit.

Tuong Lai Menu | Traditional & Authentic Vietnamese Food

The service is quick and efficient, so your food will likely come out in less than 10 minutes. Now, let’s get into the details of the pork chop variations we tried.

Com Dac Biet

The com dac biet is a Vietnamese signature with a satisfying mix of broken rice, pork chop, and Vietnamese bite-sized ingredients.

While I’m a born Vietnamese, I’m not a fan of these other pieces (heck, I barely know what they are).

I recommend not choosing this unless you know what you’re getting into or have a cultured palate. Overall, it is a good option for those who love to sample Vietnamese cuisine's different textures and tastes.

Com Suon Trung

This com suon trung had everything I wanted. It is my go-to variation of the Vietnamese pork chop and rice, and you'll likely find this version at any restaurant that sells it.

This one comes with a juicy pork chop, broken rice, and a fried egg. The added egg brings a richness that pairs beautifully with the marinated chargrilled pork, making this dish my favourite.

Complimentary Bone Broth and Dipping Sauce

It's worth noting that every rice dish comes with a complimentary bowl of bone broth topped with green onion. Then, there's a sweet and savoury dipping sauce with a hint of chilli, adding additional depth to each bite of your pork and other sides.

These thoughtful extras make your visit feel even more memorable, setting the tone for a truly satisfying Vietnamese dining experience.

RECOMMENDED

  • Go for the Com Suon Trung if you want a classic, complete Vietnamese meal
  • Com Dac Biet is ideal if you enjoy a mix of flavours and textures or if you're an adventurous eater

Final Words

Tuong Lai is all about authenticity and tradition. It offers delicious broken rice dishes that truly taste like Vietnamese cuisine.

It’s a hole-in-the-wall for anyone who is after the simplicity and depth of Vietnamese comfort food at reasonable prices.
