Zini Gelato stands out in Sydney's busy Circular Quay area as a go-to destination for gelato enthusiasts. The shop's interior is compact, with limited seating, making it ideal for a quick stop-and-go. There's a good variety of gelato flavours, with around ten regular choices and the occasional unique flavour that will pique the curiosity of regulars and newcomers alike. The shop also offers coffee, hot chocolate, and sweet and savoury snacks.

This gelato joint also caters to various dietary needs with options like low-carb gelato, vegan gelato, and high-protein gelato for healthier indulgence. While it may not claim the title of Sydney's absolute best gelato, the quality of its offerings is consistently high, reflecting a commitment to using premium ingredients and crafting each batch with care. This dedication to quality, convenient location, and a good range of flavour options make Zini a notable stop for anyone in the Circular Quay area.

More than just gelato

In addition to their delicious gelato, Zini also sells a selection of canelés, cookies, soufflés and brownies, ideal for those who want something to nibble alongside their gelato. You can expect the service at Zini to be quick and efficient, ensuring you get your sweet treat without much wait. The shop isn't typically busy, making it a convenient spot to visit anytime.

Strawberry Sorbet Gelato

This sorbet is a vibrant celebration of the classic strawberry sorbet we are all familiar with, offering a sweet and fruity delight. You'll feel the real strawberry bits with every spoonful, making it an ideal choice for those who love a classic berry treat.

Mango Sorbet

This is one of my personal favourites that captures the essence of ripe mangoes, reminiscent of the popular Weiss mango bars. Its lush, tropical flavour is refreshing and satisfying, making it an optimal choice for mango lovers like me.

Genmaicha Gelato (special flavour)

This blend combines the aromatic, smoky essence of Genmaicha tea, a must-try if you enjoy Matcha. While intriguing and delicious, it won't come close to the specialty green tea gelato offerings at other venues like Ice Kirin Bar and Gacha Gacha.

Rocher Gelato

An absolute treat for chocolate and hazelnut lovers, the Rocher flavour at Zini is rich, decadent, and packed with the luxurious taste of high-quality chocolate and hazelnuts. It's a must-have gelato that is both indulgent and irresistibly smooth and is my favourite milky gelato from Zini.

Blue Vanilla Gelato

Although visually striking with its light blue colour and perhaps considered their signature flavour, this flavour doesn't quite deliver the same excitement taste-wise. It's more of an aesthetic choice than anything else other than standard vanilla gelato.

Cioccolato

The Cioccolato gelato offers a deep dive into the world of rich dark chocolate. With an intense cocoa flavour that greets you from the first bite, it's a decent choice for lovers of chocolate. However, compared to other spots like Venchi, it falls a bit short, lacking that chocolatey depth that makes dark chocolate gelato exceptional.

Gelato Brioche

This dish pairs gelato with brioche to create a unique ice cream sandwich experience. However, the texture of the brioche was lacking and too mushy for my tastes, leading to an underwhelming dish that fell short of expectations. I don't recommend ordering this.

Gelato Cookie

While it looks great, the Gelato Cookie faces a bit of a dilemma due to its frozen nature. The cookie, when served frozen, is rock hard, making it quite challenging to bite into. If you wait for the cookie to soften, then you'll find the gelato begins to melt. Ideally, the cookie should be made in a way to maintain a softer texture that can be easily bitten into when frozen.

Hot Chocolate

A standard offering from Zini alongside their coffees. The hot chocolate is decent but not particularly remarkable. It's a decent warm beverage option but isn't a must-try item.

RECOMMENDED

  • Mango Sorbet
  • Rocher Gelato

Final Words

With the abundance of gelato shops littering Circular Quay & The Rocks, Zini Gelato is a delightful spot for a quick, satisfying gelato fix without the crowds. With a range of flavours catering to different dietary needs and preferences and a selection of baked goods, it's a great place to indulge your sweet tooth. The quick service and the typically uncrowded ice cream joint make it an ideal choice for a hassle-free gelato experience near Circular Quay.
