Soul Deli Review

@bestspots.com.au Soul Deli is a Korean café raising the bar in Sydney ⬇️⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Suppose you're ever in the mood for some delicious Korean café food. In that case, this café offers Korean dishes that exceed your taste bud's expectations 😀. It's a lovely cafe inside and out, and I recommend trying out their other restaurant Soul Dining which is nearby 💯!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ A café that's hard to fault on many fronts 🤗, from fast service and a naturally lit setting to the wide variety of food and drinks ✔️. The café will be busy during peak hours, but it's worth the wait as the fusion dishes are delightful and will give you reasons to visit again 😜. Highlights include sweet menu items such as Korean doughnuts and croffle (a cross between a croissant and a waffle 🧇). Then they also have savoury dishes such as their KFC Roll (Korean fried chicken 🍗 in a famous Martin's potato bun) and Hoedeopbap, a raw fish rice bowl, along with your classic café foods 🍽️.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ But do visit again; they'll likely update their menu with exciting new dishes 🤩. But don't just stick to the food here; their drinks list is also worth a visit with their Jeju green mandarin ade 😋, Korean coffee, special lattes and their variety of tea. I haven't found a better Korean café than Soul Deli in Sydney yet 🤔, so if you're looking for a great Korean café experience, you don't need to look elsewhere 🙌.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ To see what I mean 😜, head over to bestspots.com.au ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ #westernsydneyfoodie#sydneyfoodie#thefoodblog#sydneymustvisit#wheretogoinsydney ♬ Kawaii Aesthetic - LoES

It's hard to find any faults at a cafe like Soul Deli. Every aspect of the cafe from the setting to the service and food are exceptional. It's cult following in the competitive Surry Hills cafe scene is a testament to their quality. As such, you can expect the place to be busy during peak hours, but I guarantee, it's worth the wait.

The Korean fusion dishes are delightful and will give you plenty of reasons to visit again. Highlights from Soul Deli's menu include Korean doughnuts, croffle (a cross between a croissant and a waffle), KFC Roll (Korean fried chicken in a famous Martin's potato bun), and Hoedeopbap (raw fish rice bowl), along with your classic favourites.

The kitchen updates their menu with exciting new dishes regularly, so there's always something different to try. But it's not just the food here that delights. The drinks list features a vast variety of Korean teas and specialty lattes, including Jeju green mandarin tea, Korean coffee, black sesame latte, and more!

Cafe culture is massive in Korea and Soul Deli embodies that culture to a tee. I have yet to find a better Korean cafe in Sydney.

A classic Korean cafe in the heart of Sydney

Cafes in Korea aren't just a part of the food scene, they're an entire lifestyle. It's very common in Korea to incorporate the cafe into your daily life, whether it's to get your afternoon coffee or to extend your catch up with a friend after visiting a restaurant. One visit to Korea and you'll discover that most cafes have hour long waits, it's that popular.

Soul Deli does a great job bringing that cafe lifestyle to Surry Hills. The bright interiors and well crafted menu is everything I love about Korean cafes. The service is fast and friendly, and the staff make sure your experience is enjoyable by going the extra mile to help you with any questions.

Whether you're into sweet or savoury, there's a dish for you. Feast your eyes on Korean doughnuts, truffles, and hot cakes. Or, if you're craving something savoury, choose between omelette caviar, Korean chicken porridge, or kimchi fritters. Want the best of both worlds? Order the cafe's bestseller, KFC hot cakes - Korean fried chicken in sweet chilli sauce on top of buttermilk hot cakes.

But that's not all. It's worth trying the cafe's Korean coffee and tea, including Korean Maxim coffee, Dan-Bam milk tea, Jeju green mandarin tea, and black sesame latte.

Omelette Caviar

Spanish omelette stuffed with Korean salted cod roe and cheese, topped with herb hollandaise and trout roe 'caviar', served with sourdough.

shut up and take my money! I'm not kidding when I say, this is the greatest omelette I've ever eaten! It has just the right ratio of herb mayonnaise and caviar, delivering a silky, melt-in-your-mouth sensation.

This omelette is light, full of flavour, and an absolute must-have for any brunch-goer, especially those who haven't had any good omelettes. My bar for omelettes has lifted significantly from this best seller dish.

Homemade Twisted Korean Donut (Kkwabaegi)

Korean doughnut topped with rice syrup and sesame.

My friend ordered the doughnut and loved it. It has good browning on the outside, while remaining chewy, fluffy, and light on the inside. There's a lovely hint of sweetness from the rice syrup and a textural hit from the sesame seeds. It appears to be a special-only menu item, so order it if you're in luck.

Injeolmi Croffle

Croffle topped with Injeolmi cream, Brickfield muesli, and rice syrup.

The croffle is a hybrid between a croissant and a waffle. When combined together, you get the soft and fluffy layers of a croissant and the crispy shell of a waffle. The croffle is topped with Injeolmi cream, Brickfield muesli, and rice syrup, creating a beautiful collection of textures and flavours.

Jeju Green Mandarin Tea

Sweet green mandarin tea from Jeju Island.

Jeju Green Mandarin tea is a refreshing hot tea that delivers a tart taste with every sip and a slight sweetness from the Jeju green mandarin. It's light yet still packing enough flavour to make it flavourful and enjoyable. It's perfect if you want something citrusy and not too sweet.

Korean Maxim Coffee

I got excited at the premise of Korean coffee (or any cultural coffee, for that matter). However, I realised this was the individually packaged coffee under the Maxim brand, much similar to the Vietnamese G9 coffee brand with a touch-up from the cafe. It made the drinking experience much nicer than the packaged coffee version. The Maxim coffee brand was decent but not as good as the classic Vietnamese G9 coffee. You'll need a few packets for a full cup of coffee to get the full flavour.

Galbae Crushed Pear Juice

This is a typical canned juice that you can purchase at Korean grocers and certain restaurants. It's a refreshing juice with an enjoyable sweet and tart pear taste. It's not too sweet, which makes it a great way to quench your thirst. I don't usually find pear enjoyable, but even I liked the taste.

RECOMMENDED

  • Omelette Caviar
  • Injeolmi Croffle
  • Trying out KFC Hotcakes
  • Korean Donut
  • Jeju Green Mandarin tea

Final Words

Soul Deli is a great place to enjoy some lovely Korean cafe food. With sweet and savoury options both impressive, you cannot go wrong with the menu selection. It's also great for those open to trying something different and exploring Korean cafe culture. The fast service, natural light setting, and tasty food and drinks make it a great place to visit for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. It's worth checking out Soul Deli next time you're in Surry Hills.
